Jocassee Trout Club Meeting Minutes

November 15^th  2007

7pm – 9pm FATZ Café in Easley 

 

1. Sam Jones opened the meeting.  Jimmy Williams had a trial and was unable to attend.
2. Scott  Bullions reported an operating balance of $354.30.
3. Scott Bullions reviewed Action Items.
   1. Ken Sloan reported that Devils Fork State Park agreed to close the remote boat ramps at the park in order to help control bank fishing of newly stocked trout.
   2. Ken Sloan reported that Jimmy Williams had posted the board at Devil’s Fork State Park and that JTC brochures were on the board.
   3. Sam Jones reported that Bill Reid was still working on the updated JTC Web Page.
4. Dan Rankin with the SCDNR was the guest speaker.   Dan discussed the “State of the Lake”, some specifics are:
   1. He does not want to pursue a size limit increase on trout on the Lake Jocassee at this time.  He does not have adequate data yet to determine if a size increase will improve fishing.
   2. Dan Rankin needs fishermen to turn in Fishing Logs.  This is true even if fishermen do not catch fish.  Dan is interested in knowing how many fish are caught per hour fished.
   3. Dan once again brought up that Lake Jocassee can be managed for large trout with lesser numbers or smaller trout with more numbers.  He needs to find out from the Lake Jocassee fishing population as a whole what is wanted.
   4. Stocking techniques and locations were discussed.  Stocking at the spillway was brought up as a good protected place for new trout.  Dan stated that one of the reasons so many trout were stocked at the remote boat ramps was there was inadequate transportation assets to take them all up the lake.
   5. Dan was asked if he could come back on an annual basis to discuss the status of the lake with the Jocassee Trout Club.
5. The next meeting date is Jan 17th.
