JOCASSEE TROUT CLUB MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 21, 2008
- The Jocassee Trout Club met at 7 pm on February 21, 2008 at the Fatz Restaurant in Easley,
SC.
- President Jimmie Williams called the meeting to order at 7 PM.
- Bill Reid presented an overview of his work to upgrade the JTC web site.
The update was approved and Bill will coordinate with Jimmie and Sam Jones to upgrade the club’s web site.
- There were two new members present at the meeting. Their
names are Scott Nichols and Dr. (M.D.) Art Jordan.
- Jimmie Williams introduced the guest speaker, 1LT William H. Funchess (Clemson ’48) and his wife,
Sybil. LT Funchess told of his ordeal as a prisoner of war, for over 34
months, during the Korean War. His unit was over run by the Chinese shortly
after they entered the Korean War. He was wounded and captured and marched north
to Camp #5 with a large group of other captured prisoners. LT Funchess
told many of the details of his survival under horrible conditions and treatment by his captors. After his marvelous presentation he answered questions from club members and other guests.
- Jim Rudy then presented LT Funchess with the US Army’s Freedom Team Salute Certificate of Appreciation
that was framed and signed by General George Casey, the Chief of Staff of the US Army, and Pete Geren, The Secretary of the
Army. The audience gave LT Funchess a standing ovation.
- The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.
