Jocassee Trout Club Meeting Minutes

Thursday, August 9th

7pm – 9pm FATZ Café in Easley

  1. Jimmy Williams opened the meeting.

  1. Jimmy presented information about the JTC’s DNR committee meeting with Dan Rankin.

    1. Dan Rankin’s biggest request is for fishing reports from JTC members.  Dan specifically wants to know if the fleshy fin at the top rear of the trout has been clipped.  Additionally, Dan wants to know lengths and weights of the trout down to the tenths of an inch and tenth of a pound. This information will help the DNR determine how fast the stocked trout are growing.  The catch form is going to be redone in order to allow fishermen to capture this information.  Additionally Bill Reid needs a good picture of trout with this fin removed.  He would like it with a white background.  He will post the picture on the JTC website.
    2. Dan Rankin suggested that more trout could be stocked away from the ramps if another boat with a stocking tank could be made available by the JTC.  Ken Sloan stated that the Jocassee Outdoor Center has an old pontoon boat that he could donate for the cause.  The JTC would have to fund the tank and a motor.  It was also mentioned that in lieu of a motor this boat could possibly be towed.
    3. Dan Rankin is interested in hearing from fishermen about their thoughts on limit changes for trout on Lake Jocassee.  He stated that the lake can be managed for numbers of fish or size of fish.  In other words the lake can have lots of small fish or a few large fish.
    4. Dan Rankin presented the JTC with some trout and lake studies.  Bill Reid is going to try to post these studies on the JTC website.
    5. The interview with Dan Rankin is posted on the JTC website.  Members need to read the interview and put any comments on the JTC board.
  1. Scott Bullions presented a thank you note from the Red Cross for the cookout the JTC provided to the Search and Recovery workers looking for Joshua on Lake Jocassee in June.
  2. Bill Reid asked that any suggestions for changes to the website be sent to him.
  3. Jimmy Williams presented a slide show of his fishing trip to Canada.  There were many pictures of large fish that he caught, but few pictures of him with the fish.  Jimmy stated that this was because the guide had trouble working his camera.
  4. The meeting was then adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Scott A. Bullions

Treasurer, Jocassee Trout Club
